  • Vertical float: A vertical float switch is magnetic, and it rises and falls along the pump rod. When the water accumulates, the float rises to activate the pump.
  • Pressure: Pressure switches detect water pressure and activate pumps to operate at certain pressure levels.
  • Diaphragm: Diaphragm switches flip inward when pressure increases and flip outward when it decreases, prompting the pump to turn on and off. The benefit of diaphragm switches is that they rarely get stuck.
  • Tethered float: Tethered float switches float in sump pits. As the water level increases, the float rises until it reaches its highest floating point and activates the pump. When the water level decreases and the switch stops floating, it activates an electrical signal to turn the pump off.
  • Electronic: Electronic switches differ from other types because they don’t float. An electronic switch senses water pressure via probes that activate the pump.
